DanKatsu Volume 1, Afterword

Afterword

Thank you very much for picking up Game World Reincarnation <DanKatsu> 01 ~ Game Addicts Plays "Encouragement For Job Hunting In Dungeons" From a "New Game"~.

And to you who actually purchased this book—my deepest gratitude!

Nice to meet you, I’m Nishikigi Kaede. For readers who followed the web novel, it’s been a while.

The author absolutely loves games!

Especially classic RPGs—character training, level grinding, dungeons—that kind of traditional style is my favorite. With my limited allowance, I used to look forward to buying one new game every month.

Of course, not just RPGs—I’d also get production sims or adventure games now and then. Among all those, the thought that “if this kind of game existed, it would be insanely fun” eventually became the origin of <DanKatsu>.

And I’ve always loved web novels too!

Whenever I picked up books at a bookstore, I’d think: “Someday, I want to write my own novel.”

But saying it and actually doing it are two different things.

The biggest obstacle was that <DanKatsu> was bound to become a super-long series.

Once I started writing, I didn’t want to abandon it halfway through. But because of the premise, I knew it would inevitably balloon into an enormous word count.

If I wanted to start, I needed to be prepared to keep writing for years.

I hesitated for a long time, unable to make up my mind.

Then, one day, an email arrived on my phone: an announcement that Kakuyomu’s 6th Web Novel Contest would be held.

I mulled it over for about a week, but in the end, I decided—I’ll write <DanKatsu> and submit it to the contest.

Once I made up my mind, I was determined to go all in. I even pushed myself with a crazy schedule of two chapters every single day. Thanks to that, I managed to reach #1 on the weekly rankings, received tons of encouraging messages from readers, and somehow powered through five whole months of the contest period, updating twice a day without fail. It really felt like I got to see my own hidden strength.

Well… in the end, due to various reasons, I actually withdrew from the contest. Strange how things turn out.

Anyway, I think that’s a good place to wrap up this afterword.

Before I go, I want to give my thanks.

To Editor F and everyone at TO Books, to Akari-san who drew the wonderful illustrations, to everyone involved in publishing this volume—and above all, to the readers who picked it up—thank you so much.

Let’s meet again in the next volume.
